Question: Hello Andrew Lencioni,

I want to share a broadband connection (about 700 bandwidth - could be less) using a wireless network that I set up. I have cable modem connected to a pc with WinXP Professional. The pc is an AMD Athlong 1GHz with 640 megs of RAM. I know I will need a wireless router and wireless pc adaptor card for the second pc. I know there are different brands and wireless techonolgies. For the brand of equipment I was thinking of acquiring was going to be by Linksys. I was thinking of getting an external wireless USB pc adaptor so that I can just move the wireless USB adaptor to differenct pcs - let me know if this is a bad idea. I need to know what Linksys product I need to get in order to install the wireless network in my house to where I can move around anywhere in the house and have an internet connection to the pcs or have a signal to the router that will reach about 200 feet. The signal will have to reach a pc in another room. How much will this cost me? If I shouldn't go with Linksys then please tell me what
other brand of wireless equipment or technologies I should go with, also any websites with discounts to the products will be greatly appreciated. I
have operating systems with winXP, WinME, Win98, & Win98SE. The pcs that I have, have speeds of a Pentium Pro at 200MHz with 192 megs of RAM, AMD
450MHz with 256 megs of RAM, and a laptop with 256 megs of RAM using a Pentium III at 700MHz. Right now I just want to install a network on two
pcs for now. I can change the operating system if need be to install the wireless network.

Thank you very much for your time.

Joseph
Answer: I would not do the usb thing. Stick with ethernet. Get one of these: rel="nofollow"www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?ref=froogle&pfp=froogle&product_code=298420&cm_ven=froogle&cm_cat=&cm_pla=&cm_ite=feed
Then hook the internet to it's WAN port and each computer to a port in the LAN. Set all the PC's to get an ip address dynamically. That should do it.
