Question: Hi
I have a home LAN problem.
I am running 3 computers on a Lan via a Dlink 504T modem.router.
All run on Win XP. They were all working fine in terms of file access and internet connection until suddenly one computer while still accessing the internet ok is not able to see or be seen on the LAN.
I have checked all IP settings which are fine ie “obtain IP address automatically” and the same for the DNS server. The modem is set “enable DHCP server” and start up 192.168.1.2 and finish 192.168.1.254. The primary DNS is 192.168.1.1
As mentioned the other 2 computers are networking fine.
The network card is stated to be working and presumably there can be no cabling problem as it is connecting via the modem to the internet ok.
I did run Spybot search and destroy and deleted some files at its suggestion before the problem arose but I attempted to restore settings to the restore point created before this event and the computer gave a message that the settings had been unchanged since that restore point so presumably I can rule that out.
Any suggestions please?
Thank you in anticipation
Mike
Answer: Sometimes for no apparent reason computers will disapear from the network neighborhood A.K.A my network places. No real reason. Try going to start -> run and type \\computername where computername is the name of the missing pc. See if you can connect that way. |
